Emergency Atmosphere Monitoring: DISSUB and Damage Control

Analox has played a key role in the development of real-time atmospheric monitoring for submarine escape and rescue operations.

In the early 1990s, we introduced the Sub E-IR15P, a continuous hyperbaric air analyzer designed to provide crews with vital information on the internal atmosphere of a distressed submarine. The system was adopted by the Royal Navy for use in submarine escape compartments.

This was followed by the Sub MkIIP, introduced in 2000 as the next generation of DISSUB monitoring. The system has been extensively tested in both operational and training environments, including Survivex exercises, and has since been deployed globally.

Today, hundreds of Sub MkIIP units are in service across more than 20 nations, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Australia, France, Brazil, Italy, and the Netherlands. Systems are supplied directly by Analox and through leading submarine builders such as TKMS (Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems) and Naval Group.

The Sub MkIIP is designed to operate across a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Pressures from 0.8 to 10 bar absolute
  • Temperatures between 0°C and 40°C
  • Humidity levels exceeding 95% RH

The system is fully compliant with DEF STAN 59-411 EMC requirements.

The Sub MkIIP has now been replaced with the Sub Mk3P.

Diving and Surface Operations

Analox has supported military diving operations for more than three decades, supplying gas monitoring systems for a wide range of applications.

From surface-supplied air systems through to mixed-gas and saturation diving, our technology is designed to ensure safe breathing conditions at all times. Our systems are engineered to operate reliably at pressures up to 60 BarA, while meeting recognized standards including Lloyd’s and DNV.

We provide solutions for a range of operational roles, including:

  • Mine clearance diving
  • Naval salvage and recovery
  • Search and rescue
  • Military and special operations
  • Law enforcement and security

Our portfolio includes both fixed and portable monitoring systems, along with specialized OEM partial pressure (pp) sensors. These solutions are widely deployed across naval operations and are NATO-coded and Authorized for Navy Use (ANU).
