Modern military operations increasingly rely on enclosed and protected environments such as armored vehicles, command shelters, tunnels, naval compartments, and deployable infrastructure. While these spaces protect personnel from external threats, including Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards, they also create hidden internal risks.
Restricted airflow, combined with engine emissions, weapons discharge, fuel vapors, battery charging, and multiple personnel operating in confined spaces, can quickly lead to the buildup of hazardous gases, including:
- Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
- Carbon monoxide (CO)
Elevated concentrations of these gases can reduce concentration, impair decision-making, increase fatigue, and put both personnel safety and mission effectiveness at risk.
